Ventilator-associated pneumonia is among the most costly complications of intensive care, and one of its main drivers is silent — the pool of secretions that gathers above the cuff and trickles past it into the lungs, often without ever triggering an alarm. This endotracheal tube with subglottic suction removes that reservoir at the source, keeping the space above the cuff clear for the entire ventilation period and turning an invisible hazard into a routine nursing task.
How Subglottic Suction Works
A dedicated suction lumen exits on the dorsal side of the tube just above the cuff. An ICU nurse can aspirate the pooled secretions with a standard syringe at scheduled intervals, or the port can be connected for continuous low-pressure drainage during long ventilator runs. Because the lumen sits above the cuff, drainage happens before fluid ever reaches the cuff fold, which is precisely where conventional tubes leak it into the lower airway.
